" Atonement is within reach. "
If I was a selfish man, uncertain in my abilities, dispirited by my talents or lack thereof, I'd have allowed those I love to come to harm if it meant I could taste, if only for a moment, the glory of being atop the world. If I was convinced that I didn't possess the necessary mental fortitude and skill to reach that benchmark on my own, I would sacrifice all I've built to known the warmth of realizing that moment.
But that is simply not the type of man I am. Nor is it who I want to be.
Through failure, we are made to learn. We're made to understand the mistakes we've made and it is in our nature to plan out how to avoid them the second time around. Living with the belief that there will be a second time. Omitting the very possible truth that, there may never be a second time. Whilst also denying the one truth life has shown us throughout every facet of our being; nothing is promised, least of all, tomorrow.
Now does sacrificing my dream , for someone I've grown to love, contradict that belief? Perhaps. Or does it begin to paint an entirely different picture altogether? Nothing is promised in this world, indeed. Not today, not tomorrow. Nothing. But as long as there is air in my lungs, as long as I can walk of my own volition, I can make a way. As long as I live and breathe, until I reach atonement, until I've met redemption, nothing will stop me from realizing my dream. Nothing will stop me from knowing..
Atonement.

Hope.
Redemption.
Any man willing to go through hell to right their wrongs is deserving of heaven. This fairs especially true for Jon Kelton. How many years has it been since he embarked on this journey? How much criticism and tribulation has he faced on his path to atonement? Still, he remains inexorable on this mission. His faith in both himself and his ability is unwavering. Redemption is close, closer than it's ever been. And until it has been reached, he won't quit. He won't lose hope. He's deserving of knowing Heaven. He's deserving of reaching atonement. And so he will. Jon understands that quitting is easy. It's a natural reflex one is faced with in the event of failure. It's a decision made in the interest of preserving one's time and sparing their emotion. Anyone can quit. Anyone can choose to walk away. But it's the ones who brave the storm, with uncertainty at its highest, who deserve the praise and adulation that comes with patience and perseverance. It's the ones that braved the storm and stayed the course even when success wasn't guaranteed or even in sight, that deserve it all. The only thing pushing them forward, the only thing keeping their hearts beating, the only thing giving them solace amid all the uncertainty; hope. Hope for a better future, a better life. Hope that the journey was worth it.
Hope that it's not too late.

Note: Obviously this is at the booker's discretion, but placing this here makes it much easier to display my vision for the character, giving both reason and relative character direction through reference and ideology. And obviously, I'm not going to go into extreme detail and pinpoint every character trait and why it applies, but hopefully, it's enough to get the gist.

It's this mentality that encompasses Jon Kelton. No matter how bad the situation, no matter how many times he falls off the horse, no matter how many times he fails, he's going to continue to push forward. Clinging to the idea of a better tomorrow. He's hopeful and it's this hope that continues to inspire him in everything that he does. Just because you failed today, doesn't mean you can't succeed tomorrow. And it's this belief that keeps his heart betting. It's what keeps people gravitating towards him. It's why people continue to instill their faith in him, despite the failures. That's what the narrative should be centered around. Jon Kelton isn't dubbed 'Mr. Showdown' because he's the most accomplished or the most skilled, it's because he instills the most hope.
" If I can make it, then so can you. "
Because nothing is more important than knowing atonement. Nothing is more powerful than love and hope. Nothing is more inspiring than knowing failure and choosing to learn from it and continue pushing forward until failure is no longer a possibility. A true mark of self-improvement and the ultimate testament to mental strength. This is who Jon Kelton is. And if he isn't there yet: he's going to be.
Hopeful.
Resolute.
Endearing.

Jon is very compassionate for those whom he cares about and shares a bond. Seemingly willing to jump in front of a bullet for them at the drop of a dime. It's this selfless nature that often comes back to bite him. It's his Achilles heel at times. And it's most likely the reason he stayed to himself for as long as he did. Falling on the blade in the place of someone you love, was never and will never be a question that needed time to be thought about in Jon's mind. And if this costs him down the line, he's more than willing to deal with the ramifications of it. But he'll never have regrets for having a heart. Nor will he ever have regrets for doing what he feels is right and just.
Compassionate.
Selfless.
Loyal.

This one I think is the most simplistic to understand. Because it's essentially a combination of the previously mentioned, but slightly overshadowed by the precipice of redemption. That's what this entire fifteen-year journey has been about. Redemption. Atonement. Not just finishing, but altogether changing the story, and revising the narrative. Bleeding life into the ideology that it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, when you started, or how--- the destination is what matters, and the journey you choose to take to get there. Anyone can be redeemed. Any wrong can be forgiven--- if you put in the work and effort. And that is what Jon has spent the past year doing.
Redemption.
Personal Growth.
Prideful.

Atonement.
You can't change the past. You can't rewind time, and do things differently. Jon is aware of this, just as he's aware of all the wrongdoing he's done throughout his career, as well as the people he's let down along the way. Whether through his choices or incompetence, that notion weighs heavy on his heart. Every action that he makes, every decision, every choice is dedicated to bringing him one step closer to this goal. Changing the narrative and repaying those who've believed and kept faith in him on this journey.

Never.
The only exception being if he's pushed to that point and does so in retaliation, displaying a willingness to fight fire with fire.

Jon is very tact and concise with his words, until he feels disrespected.
Jon is very self-aware and hard on himself, people view this as a weakness, but it's the opposite. He expects more from himself. He holds himself to such a high standard that he gets upset when he falls just shy of it. He despises failure, and has worked hard over the past few months to change his perspective on it.
Jon actually hates competing in matches that could shorten his career or change his value of life. But his pride and desire to succeed push him to do so anyway.
Despite his disdain for anything extreme, Jon is ironically very resilient. Sometimes too much for his own good, willing to lay down his life in the pursuit of victory.
Jon is extremely loyal to Showdown. It's his home. It's offered him everything he could want and more, and he's willing to defend it with his last breath.
Jon is very empathetic and caring towards those with whom he shares a bond with, and or feels as though there's mutual trust and understanding. This can be shown in matches and segments.
More to be added at a later date.
