The scene opens with Kai, dressed in all-black suit and pants waiting at the main lobby of what appears to be a lavish hotel. Kai seems jittery and is pacing front and back near the main entrance before finally noticing a set of sofas off in the far right of the lobby. Kai wipes his mouth, breathes into his palm and smells for his breath. Pristine. Satisfied with his state of hygiene, Kai finally walks briskly over to the sofa and takes a seat, pulling out his phone as he does so. While most would think of Kai as simply a gentleman waiting for a date to arrive, this was a far, FAR more important occasion. Volker, Kai’s brother, had mentioned that Hoyt, their boss, would be in the country this week. More specifically, in Cleveland of all places. If there’s one thing Hoyt loves to do, is arrive completely unannounced, so when the news of him being in Cleveland came to Kai, he knew he should be ready, just in case. Don’t wanna make the boss mad now do we?
Kai looked at the time. 8:03 sharp. Volker mentioned he would be meeting Kai tonight at this very hotel lobby. Now what were the chances we would come alone? Slim. If the boss is in town, the muscle would be following close by. Bottom line is, Volker didn’t want to meet Kai, Hoyt did.

Kai’s hands began to sweat. How long has it been? Five years? Even more? As far as this whole deal was concerned, Kai wanted to get as far away as possible. There’s a difference between pissing off wrestlers, it’s different when you’re dealing with a psychotic tycoon who is as trigger happy as a child pumped with sugar, and worse of all, his brother own brother Volker was siding with this psycho. Volker chose his path: money and power. Kai knew better than to try and reason with Volker, he was simply much stronger, faster and better in every way possible. While Kai had been busting his ass in a wrestling ring, Volker had been in the warzone, risking his life on a daily basis. Of course he’d be better.

But tonight, Kai wasn’t afraid of Volker. It was Hoyt that worried him. Ajax Hoyt, he’s many things. A leader, a revolutionary, a businessman, a wise mind for the industry, a murderer, rapist, human and drug trafficker and a ruthless man to boot. Simply put, Volker would bow before this man and kiss his shoes if told to do so. Hoyt did not always hold this much power. Kai vividly remembers when he was in the same mercenary crew with him and Volker. Hoyt in fact, was their commander, at least, the last time Kai knew of him. Even then, Hoyt was the loose canon of the group. Who the fuck gave HIM a commanding position? Kai knew even back then, never ask, only follow orders.

Kai thinks back to the last day he met Hoyt.

LOCATION: Somewhere in the Pacific Ocean
DATE: CLASSIFIED
TIME: CLASSIFIED

Volker: Alright Hoyt, we’re in so much shit right now, you better have a way out planned for us!

Kai: Hostiles spotted in the east, this boat won’t last much longer, we’re down on fuel and there’s barely any land on sight!

Hoyt: Shut the fuck up you fucking pussies! I got this, Volker, be of some use and man the MG, Kai, shut the fuck up and keep driving boy, this boat isn’t slowing down as long as I’m on board

Kai: This is insane, we’re in the middle of the pacific, being chased by a cavalry of pirate gunship and we’re almost empty, Hoyt, sir, will all due respect..

Hoyt: SHUT THE FUCK UP AND PUT THE PEDAL TO THE METAL!

Volker and Hoyt use the mounted machine guns to blindly fire towards the eastern side of the boat while Kai reluctantly agrees to follow what he’s told. Within a few seconds, another boat arrives from the front with what appears to be harpoon guns. It fires. The harpoon pierces the Blackwater boat’s metal plating and whizzes right past Hoyt’s leg, grazing it in the process.

Hoyt: FUUUUUCKKKK, MY LEGGG! KAAAIIII!!!!

Kai: SHUT UP!

Kai starts to make evasive maneuvers to make sure another harpoon doesn’t find it’s mark. Kai frantically steers the boat left and right, making Volker have difficulty adjusting the aim of his machine gun and tripping Hoyt to the ground.

Hoyt: Oh you fuckers are in soooo much fucking trouble. You have NO IDEA what I’m gonna do when we get back to th-

Too late, someone just fired an RPG at the boat and the engines have become fried. The boat starts to lose it’s speed, beginning to slow down, all the while a dozen other pirate gunners ships beginning to surround it.

Volker: KAI! You seeing this? Tell me we’re not gonna die here!

Kai: I’m thinking , I’m thinking…

Hoyt: You FUCKS! YOU RUINED MY BOAT! MY FAVOURITE BOOOAAATT! AND YOU KAI, YOU HAD ONE JO-

Kai: The C4!

Hoyt: whaaa--?

Another Harpoon hits the boat, it seems the other ship is reeling the boat in.

Kai: Volker, there’s a spare case of C4 in the bottom room, enough to blow a 500 meter radius to smithereens. It’s our only option!
Volker scans the horizon

Volker: y—you’re right! Hoyt he’s right!

Hoyt: AB-SO-FUCKING-LUTELY NOT YOU COCKSUCKER, YOU’RE NOT BLOWING UP MY BOAT YOU HEAR ME?! VOLKER TO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, WE HAVE GUNS RIGHT? AHH FUCK MY LEG…WE…WE HAVE THE GUNS, WE CAN HOLD THESE BASTARDS BACK. AND I DON’T WANNA LOSE MY MERCHANDISE!

Kai: Look around Hoyt, we’re gonna fucking die!! This is the only way, we don’t know what these guys are gonna do to us, and from the looks of it, they want us alive. I can’t imagine why. Can you?

Hoyt: I’M THE COMMANDER HERE DIPSHIT, I MAKE THE DECI-

Volker: It’s done, JUMP!!

Kai: …!!!

Hoyt: Dafuq?!!

BOOM!

The sky lights up orange and a shockwave echoes the ocean, disturbing the otherwise predictable movement of the waves. Metal scraps and fuel explode outwards and a ball of inferno rises from the waters, briefly, and dies out. The pirate gun boats are flung back with the explosion, backing out and retreating. Some of the crew members are on fire and jump into the cold waters. Moments later, the orange light dies down and the night takes over yet again, blanketing the ocean with darkness.

Kai and Volker Zolomon are carrying an unconscious body of Hoyt. His leg seems to be lacerated and his shin bone sticking out. A grisly sight, to say the least. They find a small beach and wash ashore, tired, having come face to face with eminent death just minutes before. Funny, Kai never noticed the island before while they were being chased.

Their comm system fires up. It is designed to specifically mask identity, operating solely on radio frequency.

Kai looked at the comm messaged and looked up to Volker, who responded by speaking into the device.

Volker: Negative overlord, we were ambushed, we had to go on a little chase about 10 miles from the extraction point. Boat is lost. Commander is critically injured. Requesting evac. Please send backup if you can read our tracker.

The machine displayed back

Kai: uh, no. Negative overlord. Lost along with the boat. We had no choice. It was in the C4 chamber, along with the product.

After a brief pause, the screen lit up once more.

And with that, the frequency scrambles, preventing anyone from contacting the Blackwater sight any further.

Kai: …no way…

Volker: We signed up for this, c’mon, help me get the commander up!

Kai is frozen. After everything he had done, after every mission they have been on where HE was the key to success, even after ensuring that the whole squad survived when he’s not even the leader, the agency turns their back on him. Why? Was this it? You put your life on the line and this is what you get back? No loyalty. This was everything to Kai, he put the Blackwater ahead of his family because they WERE his family. And now the only people who truly understood him, who Kai could share his emotions with, cut him off from their lives. Cut his brother from the family. And for what?! 20,000 pounds of cocaine? Big fucking deal.

Kai: I’ve had enough Volker….I’m out.

Volker: What? What you mean you’re “out”? Help me bring commander up on shore.

Kai: No. If this is what my life is to the agency. If this is all I am, then I don’t want this life Volker. You said it yourself, this was our new family, our second chance In life. No more living on the streets. No more fighting petty gangs on the streets. We wanted to make it big and for a while we did. And I watched. I watched when we pillaged villages. I watched when we trafficked drugs and PEOPLE. I watched as families were ruined by what we simply called the ‘greater good’. We were no different than the people we run from! We were no different than the murderers on the streets. But you know what? I kept my mouth shut and I watched. Because I thought, hell, if you’re fine with it, I can be fine with it, after all, you’re my brother. But this? After I saved our lives? Our lives aren’t even worth the products we risk our lives for. How can you live with this Volker?

Volker: We can discuss this after we go back, now help me help Hoyt up!

Hoyt: …..my….leg, I can’t feel….my leg. My boat……where’s my boo-a—t…..my….cocai…inee…FUCK..KAI…where…is…everyone.

Volker: KAI! HELP ME!

Kai rips off his Blackwater dogchain and tosses it on the sand. He takes off his stim shot, the last one he had in case if he were to be severely injured, and tossed it to Volker.

Kai: Give that to the bastard when he wakes up. Tell him he lives because of me. I’m done with his Volker. Don’t stop me.

Kai walks off into the beach wilderness with only a machete in his hand.

Volker: KAAAI!! YOU CAN’T DO THIS! WHAT WILL YOU DO? HOW YOU PLAN ON GETTING OFF THE ISLAND? KAAAII! COME BACK, THAT’S AN ORDER!

Kai: You’re not my commander. Our commander lies in your arms. He’s a murderer too Volk. He didn’t deserve to live. He never even cared. If you were smart you’d leave him too. Don’t come find me. As far as I’m concerned, the agency is dead to me. And so are you….

Kai disappeared into the darkness, leaving Volker holding on to the unconscious body of Ajax Hoyt, their commander. Volker falls on the sand, unable to process just what happened. Unable to stomach the fact that Kai, his own little brother, walked out on him at a time he needed him the most. From Volker’s perspective, Kai had betrayed him. A cut deeper than that the agency’s desertion would ever be. Volker lets out a mad scream of rage as he looks to the crumpled body of his commander.

Hoyt: …Volker…you…ugh…you…saved..sa-ved me…

Volker: We’re stuck. No one’s coming. The comms said we find our own way back. We’re on our own in this fucked up island.

Hoyt:….Kai…where’s the-

Volker: He’s gone. He left us too. FUCK….

Hoyt: I…I should’ve…done this…a lot…soon-er. The agency is…weak….it’s lead-ership..ugh….poor. You…don’t betray me. NO ONE BETRAYS MEEE! We…find…our way back….go back to them, and take…the what is ours….I’m tired of fucking being their….lap---d—ddogg. FUCK my LEG!

Volker: What are you suggesting commander?

Hoyt: The world’s…changing…..it’s t-t-ime we ch-hange too.

Volker: Well, with all due respect, we can’t do shit sir. You’re leg’s done for and I won’t be able to go forever. From the looks of things, the agency’s won. We’re so up shitcreek it’s not even fun-

**BLEEEP**

Volker almost jumps as the screen comes back on, to his shock.

The screen dies off, this time, permanently.

Volker: erm, negative Overlord. It’s just me and the commander. Agent X is no longer with us.

Hoyt: well….looks like half of our plan it taken care of…all that’s left now, is our other b-betrayer…

Volker: ….Kai….

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kai’s mind snaps back to present day.

His phone is vibrating, it’s Volker’s personal number.

Kai: Hello? Volker, what is going on? I thought you said you’d be-

Volker: Sorry, but something came up and we’re on our way to Malaysia for the week. Business as usual. Sorry sport, I was thinking this’d be a family reunion, but you know how life is, you never know what to expect.

Kai: “we’re”…so Hoyt WAS with you.

Volker: Oh, he missed you so much Kai. He told me to tell you, you’re special, Kai. A petty hotel won’t do justice to the meeting. In fact, he wishes to welcome you to the place where we last crossed paths. You remember Rook Island Kai?

Kai:….yeah, when I left the agency.

Volker: Attaboy Kai! You see, that island is special to us, you , me , him, all three of us! In many ways, we were reborn on the island. Our lives took a turn for the unexpected. What better way to meet up at the new base huh? Oh, and he says goodluck on your match this week. He’ll be watching, although to tell you the truth, I doubt he gives a shit, never seen him watch wrestling. Ta-ta.

The call gets cut off.

Kai breathes an air of relief. The last thing he wanted before his big match, was to meet the two person on earth he’d never wanted to come face to face with. Yet, an invitation was on the table. Soon, pretty damn soon, the three of them would be in the same room. Here’s to hoping old grudges don’t last long…

The screen fades to black.
