When it comes to this, I find this such a struggle as a heel to be honest when it comes to the losing side of things. I never know how to find a way as Jonny to make those losses mean something. The last match, Jonny was affected deeply by the loss, but not sure how to go about this. How did you or others do it when you were/are a heel guy or girl?
Don't focus on the loss, but instead place your attention towards what your character learned from it. Sometimes the greatest steps that your character can take aren't from their successes, but from their failures. These are the best opportunities to really make your character grow and create depth leading into the next story that they're going to try to tell.

I do get this, to be honest. As a heel, I feel it's harder to come back from a loss than if you're a face. Especially when it's brought up in promo's. I'm not too sure how to combat that. I'm getting better at it but I still struggle.

It's not necessarily harder as a heel tbh. There's all kinds of ways to deal with it as a heel u can make excuses, say it was a fluke, accuse them of cheating, say u stubbed ur toe before the match, ur butler served u cheap food from <insert current city>, etc. As a face u can't really do any of those cuz it's dishonorable to not take responsibility but as a heel u can really say whatever and often the worse ur excuse is the more hateable and heelish u will be.

Exactly what TLA just said.

Or just use the same Triple H excuse from the mid 2000s.

"They were great one night, I'm great every night!"

Personally, I feel like it depends on the kind of heel you play or your view on the concept of loss in this game as a player. With Ryan Wilson, losses are inconsequential because there is always the next fight and the next opportunity but I get that this ain't something that can apply to every character.

I still struggle with this, even after being here for months. The tip people always gave me, you can look down the thread for tips other people have given others too, is that you shouldn't get too worked up over promos. It's about quality over quantity, too. I'm sure there are others who can give better advice and who have gone through the stage you're going through but just wanted to throw my hat in the ring and give my two cents.

Trust the Process. That is the best advice I can give, because when I first started, it was given to me. Continue doing your promos, but do not overthink them or get into the habit that you need to write 8K a promo to get over. It is more than just about quality over quantity, it is also about consistency and what you are trying to convey. As you write, it will improve. Read the shows, use what is on them, that is a great tool to have. Tell a story, this is the ammunition and finally read your opponent's work, I will say you don't have to reply to every single sentence they say either, after a while it becomes monotonous. Stick to your style, make your own and most importantly do not ever get into this trend that Heels are hard to come back from a loss, on the contrary, heels are the creators of their own narrative, you can say and do whatever you want in regard to a loss and for the heel it's justified.

Just remember, it is a marathon, not a sprint.

Agreed with @Minerva :whew:

I'd also add that I think it's best not to look at it like "I lost so my promo wasn't good enough". Try to think of it more like "I did a really good promo this week but the writers decided to have my opponent win". U can't really control the results but u can control ur performance so don't blame yourself over a loss. If ur happy with how u did then keep it up and sooner or later they will have no choice but to acknowledge that in storyline.

Not gonna lie to you, that discouraging feeling will change with time and experience. It's harder at first to swing back at that notion of an elitist being more than wins and losses because you don't have much character behind you or stories under your feet to stand on. Take what Theron said seriously because losses yield the greatest character developments and turns to actual layered characters. Wins define a character the same as losses; being a results based elitist, which in my opinion, isn't what you want. Take whatever ball you're given and roll with it, while incorporating details and stories about your character that you want them to show and display. I lost my first New Breed title match, then lost another title match at Pain For Pride for that same title a month later, but it evolved into a great story of how the longest title reign there was likely also required the longest time and most efforts to acquire. Stories and character's aren't held up by wins and losses, only aided slightly by, so it's good and well to boast about wins and focalize on someone else's losses, but it's so much more special and untraditional to take a new and fresh approach that only your character offers. Hope this helped! Keep your head strong and know that the more experience you gain, the less complicated this all becomes. It's a learned experience, not an instinctive one.

Today marks the beginning of a different take on the character, not going to lie I'm a little nervous but I welcome the challenge otherwise I would not have worked on this and kept on the Show like it's always been.

Curious to see what you all think of it, especially the first promo, as always I welcome any and all forms of opinion. :) They help me improve and entertain you better.

I'm probably going to send the first message in this thread in months, but this place seems helpful. As a new guy in EAW, what are my strengths and weaknesses as a writer and as a character builder? I have two recent promos in that case to show for it.

Also, feedback would be great.

I'd appreciate some general feedback like Harley asked, too.

And I don't know if this is appropriate for the thread or if I'll get a response but I was wondering if you guys had any advice on how to stop taking e-fedding so seriously? This is supposed to be fun and yet, I end up stressing due to deadlines and to keep up the quality of my promos. Any advice on that? Thank you on advance.
