This season so far has been an eye opener for me. I came in off the back of a stellar run with the National Elite championship thinking that I'd be seen as a big time player now. That all the doubt about me that has followed me around would just magically vanish and I'd finally be taken seriously. Obviously that hasn't been the case. I didn't do what was needed at Reckless Wiring and now I find myself kind of lost again. Floating aimlessly like I do at the start of most seasons. No direction. No clear path to what I want. So, in what I told myself would be the season where I finally broke through that glass ceiling and cemented myself as not only a main event stalwart but a genuine challenger and future world champion, I once again find myself heading into Territorial Invasion as just another name on the roster. One of the bigger names, granted, but still just a name. I'm not going in and challenging for titles, I'm not going in defending titles, no, I'm going in as one of five. Sure it's great that I've been trusted as one of the ones to carry the brands name, but it's not where I want to be. It's not where I should be and right now the only person I can blame for that, is me. Instead of being the face of the brand I'm just a face on the brand. It gets worse for me though. Not only am I nowhere near where I want to be right now, I've somehow got to try and get myself back on track at what is traditionally my least favourite event of the year and one which has been by far and away the least kind to me. My track record at Territorial Invasion sucks. There's no two ways about it. If there's an event that I could label my most consistent, it would be this one, the only problem being I consistently fuck it up. But, I'm all about looking for the positives right now and at least this year I'm not being forced to co-captain with a twat, or be named captain and then get no say over who is on my team, or try and convince a sociopath to play nice with the rest of the team. Nope, this year all that shit, and by all that shit I mean Chris Elite and his ego, can be dealt with by someone else. For once there's no fucking pressure on me at Territorial Invasion, so who knows, maybe this is the year I finally break my curse?
Before then though, I get to take a little trip down memory lane. Not just with my opponents, but with the show I'm performing on. I knew I'd find my way back to Showdown at some point in the future, I just didn't expect it to be quite so soon and as for my opponents while I'm over there? Well, I couldn't have cherry picked two easier competitors to try and kick start this season against, could I?
Halsey, you ever get the feeling we're just meant to be? It doesn't matter where we are in our careers, what brand we're on, who we're aligned with or against, we always seem to find our way back to each other. Like you said, the red string of fate just won't let us drift apart. You were there as part of the Disney Besties when me and Candice were in the full throes of frenemie-ship...is that even a word? You were there as part of The British Invasion. You emerged from the shadows as soon as I had championship gold around my waist and now, as Territorial Invasion approaches and the brands go to war, there you are again. Standing opposite me in a ring once more. It doesn't seem to matter what happens, I just know that me and you will end up in a ring together, somehow, some way. The thing is though Halsey, as much as I enjoy these constant reunions, they always end up going the same way. You work your arse off only to constantly come up short, while I manage to always keep my nose in front of you. You've been a foe, you've been a friend, hell at one point I'd even say you were family, but one thing has always stayed the same in this turbulent, ever evolving relationship we have. I've always been just that little bit better than you.
It hurts to hear it and no doubt you'll disagree but it's the cold hard truth Halsey. Yes you were a fraction of a second away from snatching the National Elite title from me. But you didn't. And that is how it's always been between us. You've almost been good enough to take me down, almost been good enough to beat me. You've come close on occasions and some would argue you've even deserved to beat me. But you haven't. The only times you've come close to besting me is when you've thrown yourself in with someone else, which admittedly does make you dangerous for the match at Territorial Invasion. You're always better as part of a unit, when you have someone else to rely on and bounce off. Luckily for me, on Showdown you don't have that. You're flying solo. Oh sure, you have history with me and with ARIA, but that's what makes this match so interesting. We all have history with each other. We could have a mini British Invasion reunion and take ARIA out and go one on one, but we know that ends with me winning. You could decide to form an alliance with ARIA to take me out and then battle her to a finish, but we know ARIA comes out on top there as well. I know you want to prove yourself as Halsey Neel, the singles wrestler, but that's just not you. There's no shame in being a tag specialist hun, just accept it and make the most of it. We aren't all cut out to be singles stars or champions like me/ You've got a niche in the tag division, so find a partner and go dominate it and leave the singles ranks to those of us who know how to win on our own.
As for ARIA, well, you're another one who seems to follow me around, albeit not quite as persistently as Halsey does. In fact, its been a while since we shared a ring and in that time both of us have changed. Both of us have grown. Both of us have evolved as competitors...well, I have. You just seem to be collecting personalities like pokemon cards. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for fresh starts and hitting the reset button when things go wrong but seriously, how many more do you need? The Ice Aces were a nothing unit, I vaguely remember you running around playing detective at one point and now you're doing whatever this is.
Personality issues aside, there's a subtle difference between me and you and me and Halsey. Halsey, has always been honest and still is. We know there's a complicated history there which after the next few weeks will have a new wrinkle added to it. You though, you always seem to operate on the edges. You always seem to end up getting involved in my business when really you don't need to. You stuck you nose in when I was fucking with the rest of the Ice Aces back in the day. It was obvious I was just desperate to make name for myself again but you still got involved. You cost me a shot at the tag titles because you had beef with Pandora. You're the anthesis to Halsey. She's in my face, clear about our issues but I usually end up coming out on top. You, you're always on the edge, getting involved when you don't need to be and things never work out well for me as a result. I don't know why, but that bugs me.
But, I've got a perfect chance to put that right on Showdown. I have the ideal opportunity to lay that little issue to ret because you won't be operating from the sidelines, or jumping my tag partner, or egging on your stable mates, because you don't have any. It will be one on one on one. I don't think there's any real danger of you and Halsey forming an alliance against me unless she's desperate to finally beat me. This one ARIA, is all about momentum. This match is all three of us wanting to show our worth to our respective brands and respective team mates. I have one task this week and that's to make sure that this result goes in Dynasty's favour.
Because girls, while you two see this as a match on Showdown with a lot of history and back story tied to it. I see this as an audition. We all know I'm a reliable tag partner. Doesn't matter who I'm with, I can be trusted bell to bell, less so after the match is over, but that's not the point. Right now I have a Chris Elite problem, so I need to show out in this match. I need to make it perfectly clear to the rest of Team Dynasty that I'm not going to be the problem child on the team. That I can be trusted. The easiest way for me to do that? Take out a member of each of the other two brands teams. Simple as that. And remember ladies, despite our histories, this is simply business.
