CHARACTER INFORMATION
Disposition/Alignment: Tweener
Gimmick: A brooding, reclusive man who is haunted by the company and the past that binds him to it. Jay has lost much of the joy and what many would call the "love of the game" because he no longer sees the game he once loved as genuine. To him, it has become more of a survival tactic. Jay is back on track with believing that success will bring him closer to what he truly needs. He doesn’t value championships or accolades as a means to fame, knowing there are plenty of cases where titles and accomplishments mean nothing if they don't define who the person is or change how others perceive them. But that’s beside the point, Jay doesn’t expect anyone to see him as either a hero or a villain. He’s just a guy here to get what he needs and do what must be done, no matter how long it takes and no matter what he has to do to take a step toward the goal he’s trying to achieve. His mindset and motives are entirely influenced by the “work hard and earn your due” philosophy. He has no personal feelings toward any of his co-workers or with the company as a whole; he’s simply here to achieve his goals but if anyone tries to waste his time or get in his way, he has no choice but to remove them from his path.
Contextual Backstory: Back in the day, Jay Jerry Johnson used to be happy. He saw himself as a regular elitist who chasing dreams and goals, hoping to become as successful as the ones he looked up to and wishing that one day, the company would remember his name.... but ever since the injury happened, nothing has been the same. After taking time off to heal and spending time as a shareholder at Arts & Tranquility ゆうえつ, a café tucked away in a small alley in Yokohama, with his sister’s best friend, Yuka Asakura, Jay reflects on his experience working there during his break and starts to believe that this might be the better life he should pursue... but the problem is, he can’t. Wrestling keeps haunting him. No matter where he goes or when he goes to bed, he relives everything he’s been through in his career. Buzzing sounds and voices in his head call his name, after undergoing medical treatment to uncover the cause of what’s really troubling his mental health, many therapists struggled to find any clear answers. All they could do was prescribe him pain relievers and concluding that the only person who truly knows what’s going on is Jay himself. Taking this into account, Jay Jerry Johnson decides to find his own path back to this ideal world to discover if that’s the truth as he he has to come back and confront the demon that haunts him. He must give them what they want in exchange for a life that will finally set him free.
Character Inspirations:
Kiritsugu Emiya (Fate/Zero) [LINK]
- Only cares about his goals. Nothing more, nothing less. If anything stands in his way of achieving his goals, he will do whatever it takes to keep moving forward in his pursuit.
- Doesn’t seem to have sincere motivation for what he is doing and is likely driven by self-interest, though the situation is more complex by being someone who rejects typical desires like fame or personal gain for a more profound, overarching goal like peace.
- Losing faith in perfect ideals and is now focused on making very, very tough decisions that he believes will lead to practical, beneficial outcomes.
- Is also called the "hunter" because he seems driven to take down others as if it's his death-defying duty when deeply, his real goal is to achieve inner peace through this unhinged pursuit.
Shinya Kogami (Psycho Pass)
- Serious nature. Detail-oriented person with scientific approach. Deeply introspective; always thoughtful and philosophical about people's actions and goals.
- Someone who is chasing something others don’t understand or appreciate, and despite what they think, no matter how irritating they find him or how much they mock his stubbornness for aiming at something seemingly unattainable, he remains consistently committed to pursuing the goal he’s set so high for himself.
- Carrying a tendency to look inward by questioning others' beliefs or actions and seeking personal meaning, or even, deeper understanding beneath the surface.
Trafalgar D. Water Law (One Piece)
- Struggling with trust and is hard to win over, but once his walls come down, his loyalty will run deep.
- Speaking with brevity and precision but also often using respectful and reserved language, though warmth rarely comes through.
- When fueled by revenge, he will NOT stop until it’s fulfilled.
Sakura Haruka (Windbreaker)
- Refuses to be respected or accept gratitude, never seeing himself as a hero. No matter his actions, moral or otherwise, he rejects being called a good guy. He never considered himself one regardless of how many people insist on labeling him as such, because that was never his goal. Even when his actions unintentionally result in good, or when he does something without the intent to be virtuous but still achieves a positive outcome, he denies having done anything good. Always warns others not to misinterpret his motives, always offering explanations that, in his view, have nothing to do with morality.
James Sunderland (Silent Hill 2)
- Mentally tormented, struggling with internal conflict where even his fondest memories are stained by guilt and denial.
- Sounds of his past haunt him as the auditory remnants of unresolved trauma that refuse to go.
Master Chief (Halo Infinite) [LINK]
- Viewing the massive losses of those around him as powerful lessons using them as a driving force on his path to glory. Never blames anyone but himself and he sees each failure as a natural part of the human experience.

MOTIVATIONS
Character’s motivation for competing:
Life with freedom. Returning to confront his complicated mental health issues tied to EAW, Jay aims to uncover the truth behind the noises and voices that have been calling out to him, to do whatever it takes to silence them and achieve the peaceful life he has longed for using success, fame, and titles as achievements to reach that end. If those things don’t stop the pain, he will keep searching for every possible way to heal himself and seek peaceful life he’s coming after, no matter what it’s about. After taking down Brian Daniels and finding himself on another rising wave of success, Jay Jerry Johnson continues to struggle in his search for happiness and he’s still bound by the chains of pain that prevent him from enjoying this sport and feeling human again. For that, bar only continues to rise for him until he reaches the top echelon and finally feels like himself once more. Perhaps the highest peak is still ahead and the World Championship whose soul and spirit he has yet to claim in order to unlock his true self.
Tendency to Cheat: Only if they did it to him first.

NOTES
Important
Crucial information regarding the character that the writer should have noted for an accurate portrayal of the character’s performance.
- Jay sustained a brachial plexus injury during Grand Rampage 2024, which took some time to heal but it continues to affect him, occasionally causing weakness in his right wrist or arm. He was able to heal for a little while, but after the hellbent ordeal he went through in his Pain for Pride match against Brian Daniels, the damage has returned that it almost back to its original state of being broken and in pain, that remains his greatest weakness which means, Jay mostly prefers using kicking maneuvers rather than close-combat moves.
- Jay is VERY committed to the success of his 'Can They Co-Exist?' tag team and never lets personal matters with his partner interfere. He considers every tag team partner as a serious business ally to work with in order to achieve success overnight.
- Anna Wauter, his beloved sister (He doesn’t have a sister complex no) often features in CDs and promos and treating any verbal assault on her is considered as a serious offense. It's like someone bringing up your family name—something you'd likely want to avoid as well.
- JJJ or Triple J are NOT official nicknames for Jay anymore, but fans, wrestlers and commentators are still using these terms to refer to him. It was not something Jay officially chose or endorsed himself. It was more of a fan-made or commentator-used nickname.
- If Jay ever becomes a champion again, he will understand immediately that pursuing something requires sacrifice so when Jay holds a championship for now on, he will do everything in his power not only to be a great champion as a form of sacrifice but also to make the title meaningful while it’s in his possession.
- If Jay has nothing left to achieve in life after getting everything he desires (if that ever actually happens), it will depend on whether EAW truly leaves his mind and gives him a peaceful life but it will always reveal itself through occasional character development whether he overcomes it or not.
- Jay is quite resourceful in the ring, often finding any available materials around the ring area and crafting them into makeshift tools. If you place him in no-rules matches, be sure to show this aspect of his creativity and ability to improvise.
- All of his submission holds can be effectively combined and transitioned between to complement each other. Be creative and have fun especially if you are specialized in writing technical wrestling or if the booker's notes require the match to follow a specific theme.
Fun Facts
Not as crucial, but are cool to learn and know about the character, though they don’t fully apply to their onscreen character.
- Jay is fluent in several languages, notably Japanese, Chinese and Thai—Japanese because he grew up there, Chinese having taken it as part of his class options back in his college days, and Thai from his mother's heritage.
- Jay’s father's last name is Johnson, and his mother's last name is Evergarden. He uses Johnson as his wrestling name, following his father's suggestion, but keeps Evergarden to honor his mother. Anna took the last name Johnson directly from her father with her mother's agreement that it worked better for their family. This has NOTHING to do with “AIRI Evergarden” because apparently, the name Evergarden was used without permission by her but since she has faded into obscurity, Jay has rightfully reclaimed his mother's last name.
- Jay invested in a business after finding a part-time job at a local café in Yokohama, Japan, with one of his sister’s closest friends, Yuka Asakura, while healing from an injury. He became a shareholder in the café and now plans to expand the business to America and beyond to stay involved in its operation.

NOTES
